My feet hurt everytime I work out more than 1/2 hour. I wear very nicest shoes that are out there.

Any thoughts?

Do you run flat footed or on your toes? Sometimes, technique can lead to injury/pain. Check out this site. http://www.running-pain.com/?gclid=CLyaqZGy46ECFRchDQod_CWXJw

What are you thoughts on barefoot running? I watched a documentary debating different shoes and techniques for running. What shoes do you recommend? And do you think running barefoot will build strength and prevent injury?

First not all shoes are created equal. And neither are peoples feet. I have a wide heel. My half brother has an extremely narrow heel. I have flat feet [Thank you Corrections Dept for all that walking all those years while I worked in the prison system]. He has a very high arch. I have to have lifts to adjust for a chronic torn Achilles tendon. He is just fine. We can't buy the same shoe even tho we wear the same size nor can we trade shoes.

I can't tell you what shoe is the best because I don't have your feet. I have mine. To get the best fit, you need a pro who knows what they are doing to recommend them. I'm not.
Just because they sell for the most or are the prettiest or has the best ads out there doesn't mean they are the best shoe for a foot esp yours. If you are serious get fitted. Just because they are the nicest shoes out there, doesn't mean they are the best shoes for you and your foot.

Next running barefoot? On sand on a clean beach if you know for certain there are no broken bottles, metal or broken shells, yep. Anywhere else? Can you say knee, back and ankle problems? Or nasty cuts and are your shots up to date? There is a reason why the gym says "Proper foot wear required" and it isn't just their insurance. They want to keep you as a customer and a customer with a very bad knee is not a customer any more.

If you don't want to spend the money to get fitted you might try somewhere like http://www.footsmart.com/ which has guides for buying shoes and allows you to shop by condition [example my flat feet] and recommends certain things to look for when you are buying. I use them for my lifts.
